This expertise builds on the experience of EDF and R&D EDF, which for over 35 years has developed scientific and technological codes and open source software in areas such as numerical simulation of structures, fluid mechanics, and even environmental hydraulics modeling.
A software legacy capitalizing on years of research and expertise in numerical simulation.
In 2005, code_aster, the first major mechanics code, was made available. Today, it is the open-source reference for numerical simulation and structural mechanics. The current community of EDF calculation code users brings together 10,000 active members. Dozens of professions already use the 4 software packages code_aster, code_saturne, openTELEMAC and SALOME for intensive complex physical simulations.
- Civil Engineering, for the study of dam behavior
- Engineering for realizing simulation of manufacturing processes additive
- Climatic engineering, for simulating the appearance of heat islands in the urban environment
Partnerships & ecosystem
To cover the full range of skills required for the services offered, Simvia has already concluded contracts with two partners: the specialized engineering firm PHIMECA and the company LINAGORA, a French leader in the publishing of open source software. The partnership between EDF and CEA in the development of the SALOME software aims to create a free and multi-platform scientific computing platform for the realization of industrial studies and physical simulation.

Our team
Fabien Leray
CEO
Fabien Leray is President and Founder of Simvia, an EDF subsidiary dedicated to providing open-source numerical simulation solutions for industrial engineering. With a background in engineering, he began his career focusing on nuclear operational safety before joining EDF’s R&D division, where he led digital transformation projects for nuclear facilities.
Nicolas Malleron
Commercial and Partnership Director
I drive Simvia's growth by leading business development and strategic partnerships. My key advantage is a dual expertise: a PhD in fluid mechanics and 12+ years in R&D and innovation leadership. This allows me to deeply understand client challenges and partner with them to build high-value solutions, leveraging Simvia's sovereign, industrial offering powered by open-source technology.
Ilyess Guerrouj
Sales engineer
My mission is to promote and accelerate the adoption of numerical simulation codes developed by EDF among industrial companies. To do this, I support customers throughout the sales cycle by presenting the Simvia offering and the open-source code ecosystem in a targeted and operational manner.
Mariam Kesba
CFD Engineer
With three years of experience using aerodynamics-focused CFD software, I have developed solid expertise in numerical modeling and simulation for demanding industrial projects. At Simvia, I'm applying this expertise to the developement and implementation of EDF's open-source codes dedicated to fluid mechanics.
Jules Arnaud
Stuctural Mechanics Engineer
With a background as a mechanical engineer, I am fascinated by numerical simulation and its industrial applications. My experience in mechanical studies and R&D with Code_Aster confirmed my belief in the potential of this powerful open-source solution. I decided to join Simvia in order to make it more accessible and promote its use within industrial sectors in France and abroad.
