Simvia: A subsidiary of the EDF Group dedicated to software solutions in computational and physical simulation for engineering.
Simvia, a pioneer in open-source software development
This subsidiary builds on the expertise of EDF’s R&D, which has been developing scientific computation codes and open-source software for over 35 years in various fields such as structural mechanics, fluid dynamics, and environmental hydraulic modeling.
A software legacy built on decades of research and expertise in numerical simulation
In 2005, code_aster, the first major structural mechanics code, was made publicly available. Today, it stands as the open-source reference for numerical simulation and structural mechanics.
The current user community for EDF’s computational codes includes 10,000 active members.
Numerous industries already use the four key software solutions — code_aster, code_saturne, OpenTELEMAC, and SALOME — to perform intensive, complex physical simulations:
- Civil engineering: To study the seismic resilience of dams
- Mechanical engineering: For simulating additive manufacturing processes
- Climate engineering: To model the emergence of urban heat islands
Partnerships & ecosystem
To cover all the necessary expertise required for the quality of its services, Simvia has already established partnerships with two key players: PHIMECA, a specialized engineering consultancy, and LINAGORA, French leader in open-source software publishing.
Additionally, the partnership between EDF and the CEA for the development of the SALOME software aims to create a free, cross-platform scientific computation framework for conducting industrial physical simulation studies.
