Our openTELEMAC training courses

Our openTELEMAC courses by level
Courses are organised by level: initial courses to get started, intermediate courses to consolidate a working practice, advanced courses to go further on specific topics. Each course lists its upcoming sessions, with the location, the language and the satisfaction rate of past sessions.
Our initial openTELEMAC courses
1 courseopenTELEMAC: free-surface hydraulic simulation
Discover the fundamentals of free-surface hydraulics with openTELEMAC, from building the mesh to simulating a realistic flood, through a step-by-step approach based on real geographic data.
Frequently asked questions
Who can attend inter-company training sessions?
Our sessions are primarily aimed at:
- Calculation, R&D, or design engineers working in the field of numerical simulation.
- Individuals with a background in finite elements and CFD (meshing, boundary conditions, post-processing).
- Users wishing to structure their use of openTELEMAC and its ecosystem (QGIS & Q4TS, Salomé, ParaView, etc.).
How many employees from the same company can register?
Our inter-company sessions are ideal for training 1 to 5 employees. For 6 or more people, we recommend switching to in-house training. This format allows us to customize the examples according to your specific business issues.
What are the hardware and software prerequisites?
Hardware requirements
A personal computer with at least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended) and a recent processor is sufficient to complete all the hands-on exercises. No dedicated graphics card is required.
Software requirements
The training course uses the openTELEMAC suite, QGIS, and Salomé, all of which are available for free on the open-simulation-center.org website as Docker images, Singularity images, or MSI files (Salomé and openTELEMAC only). Detailed installation instructions, tailored to each operating system (Linux, Windows), will be sent to you before the training so that you can arrive with your environment up and running.
Note for institutional users: On some lab or university computers, administrative permissions may restrict software installation. We recommend that you check the installation process with your IT department before the training.
Backup solution
If you encounter an installation problem despite following the guide, Simvia can provide preconfigured computers for the duration of the training. Please let us know no later than the day before the session so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Who are the trainers?
Our training courses are led by engineers and PhDs in numerical simulation, who are experts in the daily use of openTELEMAC at Simvia. As advanced users and contributors, they don't just stick to theory: they share best practices, troubleshooting tips, and feedback from the industrial field with you.
Will I receive a certificate upon completion of the training?
Yes. Each participant receives an official training certificate. This document certifies your active participation in the training and details all the modules and technical skills acquired (fundamentals, meshing, data interpolation, resolution, post-processing).
Does a specialisation module exist after this training?
Absolutely. Our offer is designed to support your long-term skills development.
Stay tuned to find out the dates of the next advanced sessions!
Can you adapt the content to my specific cases?
To ensure a solid foundation for everyone, inter-company sessions follow an optimized standard program. If you want to work directly on your geometries, your own business cases, or your internal workflows, we recommend intra-company training. We will then work with you to build a program that specifically addresses the challenges of your industry.
