When silence is perceived 10 times faster, 10 times better!

Context

When designing buildings that are pleasant to live in, assessing the noise impact of neighbouring railway infrastructure is a key consideration. Our client, a leading engineering consultancy, was facing a barrier to innovation: calculation times so long that they made parametric studies virtually impossible. It was necessary not only to break through this barrier of slowness, but also to streamline the digital workflow between architectural design software (BIM) and advanced simulation tools.

Simvia’s approach

  • Creating a seamless digital bridge between BIM and simulation: adapting SALOME’s meshing tools to carry out operations following output from BIM software
  • Using code_aster to simulate the acoustic transmission of railway vehicles passing over future property development projects
  • Integrating the parallelised version of code_aster into on-premises computing infrastructure

Results

  • A flexible and powerful workflow:
  • Initial computation times reduced by a factor of 10 thanks to the MPI protocol
  • A tenfold increase in the capacity to explore the digital design of experiments automatically
  • A better return on investment from the existing computing infrastructure, enabling genuine acoustic optimisation of future property development projects.
