Context
Our client, a specialist in civil engineering, was wondering how to ensure a consistent standard of excellence given that its teams of engineers are spread across several sites and are used to using different tools. The SALOME and code_aster tools very quickly emerged as potential candidates for a common technical foundation, but more was needed. The challenge was not merely technical, but also human: a shared skill set was needed to harmonise working practices and facilitate collaboration on complex projects.
Simvia’s approach
- We have designed much more than just a training course; it is a genuine, bespoke support programme:
- Over 50 per cent of the training was devoted to practical exercises directly inspired by the client’s business cases, using materials developed specifically for their needs.
- Recognising that the engineers were coming from a background of commercial problem-solving tools, we built our entire approach around analogies with the tools they were already familiar with, facilitating quick and intuitive understanding.
Results
- 13 engineers trained over 3 days in the use of SALOME and code_aster, who now share a common language and working methods, regardless of their home site.
- Standardised simulation practices, ensuring consistent quality and reliability in the design of future structures.
- Maximum return on investment thanks to training designed not merely to ‘demonstrate’ but to ‘get participants to do it themselves’, thereby embedding skills for the long term.
