Context
To demonstrate that open-source tools can meet the demands of highly complex simulations requiring a very high degree of realism, in relation to the design of submarines. To achieve this, it was necessary to overcome the obstacles preventing their full adoption by Drass in terms of performance and scalability.
Simvia’s approach
- Integration of a bespoke, optimised version of Salome and code_aster – drawing on Simvia’s full technical expertise – into the client’s approved business tools
- Enhancement of the software’s core capabilities to handle large-scale mechanical systems
- Implementation of a WSL virtual machine configuration tailored to the host machine’s specifications
- Utilisation of GPU acceleration for the Salome software and parallelism protocols in code_aster to enable accelerated simulations
Results
- Computation time reduced by a factor of five thanks to the use of the MPI compilation of code_aster
- It is now possible to handle meshes comprising several million elements smoothly.
- Another step forward for Drass towards ever more realistic simulations!
